ARVIN RANDLE

PROFILE: Arvin Randle was the youngest of the famous five Randle Brothers who continued the racing tradition begun by their father, Boyd E. Randle of Idana, KS.

HISTORY: In the 1940’s, three of Arvin’s brothers operated Randle Brothers Kennel. Arvin, while working fulltime at Boeing in nearby Wichita, also worked on the farm. The kennel, that raced at Southland and St. Petersburg in 1952, was hailed as one of the best. The brothers continued to operate the kennel until 1954, when an interstate highway split the Randle farm into two sections and the brothers later dissolved their partnership. Arvin returned to the area where his father had started the family’s greyhound business. He started a greyhound farm at Morganville and sent many of his greyhounds to his brother, Duane, at Southland. By the mid 1960’s, Arvin had reduced his greyhound numbers so much that he almost was out of business. Using his pet greyhound named PAY JOAN, who had five crosses of the MISS JUDY female bloodline; he rebuilt his greyhound farm into a successful business.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The superstar of the Randle Kennel was all American REAL HUNTSMAN, a winner of 27 straight in one streak. REAL HUNTSMAN won Joe Linsey’s American Greyhound Derby at Taunton two years in a row, in 1950 and 1951. He was selected as one of the first greyhounds to be inducted into the Greyhound Hall of Fame. Arvin’s most famous greyhound was GURLEY, who captured several stake events including the Flagler International Classic and the Biscayne Marathon Championship. She became one of the top producers on the Randle farm and one of the most highly regarded brood matrons in the business. Other winners were SEW BIG, ELURA, KELTY, MARKOFF, TRULY FINE, JUDIANNA, DUGGAN and PALIK.
