EUGENE AVARD RANDLE

PROFILE: Eugene Randle was born the eldest son of B.E. Randle of Idana, Kansas in June of 1912. Randle was added to the PIONEER section in April of 1979 just months before he passed away.

HISTORY: One of Gene’s biggest thrills came early in life-at the age of 14, his dad let Gene handle MISS JUDY in the 1926 Sapling Stake during the National Meet in Ft. Riley, Kansas. She not only won the Sapling but went on to become the cornerstone of the famous Randle bloodline. In 1927 Gene bought his first greyhound with money he had earned. At the age of 19 Gene went to the race track in Miami to work. He earned $9.00 a week. Later he worked at El Cerrito, Portland and Revere. Throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s the Gene Randle Kennel was among the best in the country. Gene retired from the race track in 1973 after more than 40 years in the business. The Randle name remains active though with younger brothers Ned, Duane, Ray and Arvin still active in the industry.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Gene’s greyhound REAL HUNTSMAN was one of the best he had and among the first three greyhounds enshrined into the Greyhound Hall of Fame in 1963. “He was the best that ever lived at all distances.” Gene said in 1978.
