NED RANDLE

PROFILE: Ned Randle was the second oldest of the five famous Randle brothers who continued the racing tradition begun by their father, Boyd e. Randle, of Idana, Kansas.

HISTORY: In 1947 Ned joined his brothers Gene and Ray to operate Randle Brothers Kennel. For an investment of $50,000, they purchased a 160-acre farm just east of Wichita, Kansas and built it into one of the largest, most modern and best equipped greyhound farms in the country. Ned and Ray ran the farm while Gene stayed at the racetrack. The cut in purses was split equally between the three partners. The kennel, that had raced at Southland and St. Petersburg in 1952, was hailed as one of the best. The brothers continued to operate the kennel until 1954 when an interstate highway split the Randle farm into two sections and the brothers later dissolved their partnership. Ned, who preferred the training state, remained at the farm and sent his Greyhounds to Gene. Later, he went on to breed and raise greyhounds in Alabama and Ocala, Florida where he developed a multi-farm. By 1965, Ned was racing 30 Greyhounds at Florida and Juarez, Mexico racetracks.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The superstar of the Randle kennel was All American REAL HUNTSMAN, a winner of 27 straight in one streak. REAL HUNTSMAN won the Joe Linsey’s American Greyhound Derby at Taunton two years in a row, in 1950 and 1951. He was selected as one of the first greyhounds to be inducted into the Greyhound Hall of Fame. Other winners belonging to Ned were; MANDY LANE and MAD HATTER.
