RAY RANDLE

PROFILE: Ray Randle was one of the famous Randle brothers who continued the racing tradition begun by their father, Boyd E. Randle, of Idana, Kansas.

HISTORY: In the 1940’s Ray joined his brothers Gene and Ned to operate Randle Brothers Kennel. With an investment of $50,000, they purchased land just east of Wichita, Kansas and build a large, modern and best equipped breeding farm with the intention of monopolizing the greyhound business. Ray and Ned ran the farm while Gene stayed at the racetrack. The cut in purses was split equally between the three partners. The kennel, that raced at Southland and St. Petersburg in 1952, was hailed as one of the best. The brothers continued to operate the kennel until 1954, when an interstate highway split the Randle farm into two sections and the brothers later dissolved their partnership. Ray went on to the racetracks and became a kennel owner. At Raynham he operated a kennel in partnership with Don Cuddy, a well known trainer. Ray later ran a family farm in Ocala, Florida, that supplied greyhounds for both the Raynham and Lincoln operations.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The superstar of the Randle kennel was All American REAL HUNTSMAN, a winner of 27 straight in one streak. REAL HUNTSMAN won Joe Linsey’s American Greyhound Derby at Taunton two years in a row, 1950 and 1951. He was selected as one of the first greyhounds to be inducted into the Greyhound Hall of Fame. Another Ray Randle great was PAYMORE.
