D.E. “DON” ROWE

PROFILE: “Don” Rowe was born in February of 1929 in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1937, his mother Eleanor married I. H. Hennershot, a veteran dog owner racing at Derby Lane with the “GALLANT” string. Don has been active with greyhounds since that time. Rowe and wife, Marjorie, currently reside at their greyhound farm in Friendswood, Texas.

HISTORY: Don Rowe acquired his first personally owned racing kennel in 1960 from Jack Herold, upon the death of Mr. Hennershot. He acquired Jack Herold’s greyhound farm in Taunton, Mass., and the Curly Knox farm in Abilene. Both were subsequently sold. Rowe has raced greyhounds in Florida, Colorado, Arizona, S. Dakota, Massachusetts, and many dogs leased out to numerous other tracks throughout the U.S.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Rowe has always tried to maintain a quality racing kennel and has raced at the most competitive race tracks. Some of his good greyhounds include GALLANT CUSH, GALLANT AGENT, CLYDE MAC, GALLANT FIRE, CAUSEFORCONCERN, BUD MATHIAS, GALLANT RALEIGH, GALLANT GUNSMOKE, RUSHING RICK and WOLFGANG, two promising youngsters racing at Derby Lane. BUD MATHIAS is the only greyhound to win two grade A races in a single program, a 3/16th and a 5/16th mile, during kennel championship competition at Phoenix in the mid-sixties.
