ERWIN JOE SANSTROM

PROFILE: Erwin Joe Sanstrom was born April 26, 1914 in Anna, Texas. He married Lucille Beckner in 1936. He began his greyhound career at the age of 20 as a trainer for Paul Boone in Texas and was head lead out boy at the first greyhound race track in Dallas. At the time of his death in 1987 he owned 110 greyhounds. For over 30 years, Sanstrom was a supervisor for General Dymatic and Bell Textrom helicopter.

HISTORY: he raised and raced his own greyhounds with some of the finest kennels. He had his own bookings at Jacksonville, Orange Park and Daytona Beach, FL in the early 1960’s. Due to Ill health he returned to the farm life and raised and raced his own greyhounds at several tracks with different kennels.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Sanstrom owned and raised RANIA who was 10th in brood matron standings, at one time. Her blood line included REYNA, who won 12 races and later produced many fine distance runners. RANIA was the great-grandmother of BOGA and MARIMBA of Beckner Kennel. Sanstrom also owned WRIGHT FONTAIN who held the 7/16th mile record at Taunton, Mass. for a number of years. WRIGHT FONTAIN was the mother of HONEY LANE, who was Grade A until injured. Sanstrom broke in and raced RUSDALE who won several large stake races for H.D. Beckner. Sanstrom’s greyhounds also raced for the following owners: W. Lee Bryant, Henry T. Wright and Mary Rowling Kennels.
