FRED SCOGGIN

PROFILE: Fred Scoggin was born October 1912 in Blair, Oklahoma. In 1981, when Scoggin was added to the PIONEER section, he and his wife Evelyn were still active as greyhound breeders in Altus, Oklahoma.

HISTORY: Fred Scoggin was among the first people who witnessed greyhound racing in Tulsa during the early 1920’s. Scoggin began raising greyhounds in 1929 and was to become a regular attendant at the National Meets and the Texas Meets for many years. Scoggin received his introduction and education into greyhound breeding from Art Wilson, another PIONEER in the industry. Scoggin developed a unique bloodline and identified them with his “S.S” initial prefix.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Fred Scoggin developed a bloodline in greyhounds that is much respected, even in the 1980’s. Some of his great producing brood matrons include; LADY SQUEAK, KATHI AWARD, KITTY HOSS, MA HOSS and S.W. BLONDIE GAL. Scoggin’s most famous greyhound was S.S. JENO who won the 1971 American Derby at Taunton and went on to become a champion sire. Scoggin was an active member of the Oklahoma Greyhound Breeders Association and was a member of the Greyhound Hall of Fame Board of Trustees in the early 1970’s, when the museum was in its developmental stages.
