ED SOUZA

PROFILE: Ed Souza was born in Dighton, Massachusetts in 1916. Ed was first introduced to Greyhound Racing in 1935 married in 1938, served in the Air Force, and retired from active management of a kennel in 1982. Mr. Souza was honored as a PIONEER in 1986.

HISTORY: In 1935 Taunton Greyhound Park opened in Ed’s home town of Dighton. Ed took a job cooling out the greyhounds at 10 cents a dog. That was the spark that ignited Ed’s desire to own a successful racing kennel. He was affiliated with George Lippold Jr. in the early years until his military service in 1941. After his discharge in 1946, Ed and his wife Wilma Marie raced at almost every track in the country for the next 35 years. Many good greyhounds raced under his banner Silent Breeze Kennels, such as JUDY DOLL, BLUE DIAMOND, CHIEF CASH, and many others.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Ed Souza, after many years as a successful kennel operator, served as a director on the board of the New England Greyhound Association and on the Executive Committee of the National Greyhound Association.
