VERNON PRICE “V.P.” SPRADLING

PROFILE: V.P. Spradling was born in Hollis, Oklahoma in 1905. He entered the greyhound business in the mid 1930’s when he began running greyhounds with his good friends, Max and Jack Pickrell of Tipton, Oklahoma. They ran greyhounds at the National Greyhound Association coursing meets, and had some of the best coursing dogs in the country. V.P died in 1976.

HISTORY: He began running greyhounds on his own around 1940. He had three greyhounds, MAX STAR, J’S SUE and SANDY PRINTER, on All-America teams. Besides these three dogs, he raced such other outstanding individuals as; REBA H. who won the 1968 Irish American at Biscayne; COTTON BOY, a finalist in the Flagler Classic; AVALON a solid grade A female; JEMEZ, honorable All-American; J’S MEANY, track record holder at Southland; SANDY SOILS, mother of SANDY PRINTER; VANILLA, grade A sister of SANDY PRINTER; and many more.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Over the years, “Longie” or “Sprad”, as he was affectionately known to his friends, continually raised and trained outstanding greyhounds, always being true to his never ending desire to have quality, not quantity in his greyhound operation. The name of Vernon Price Spradling was a household name in the industry until his death in December, 1975.
