F.B.”HAPPY” STUTZ

PROFILE: Happy Stutz was born in Illinois in 1905. Stutz moved to Miami when he was 9 years old. During the early 1920’s Stutz was clerking in a grocery. When Happy Stutz was added to the PIONEER section of the Hall of Fame in 1979 he was residing in Hialeah, Florida.

HISTORY: It was a Stutz owned greyhound that won the very first race at Biscayne in the 1920’s. Since then, Happy Stutz has captured tens of thousands of races and has won scores of stake events. Some of his better known greyhounds have been: K.C.BYERS, PANCOAST, MAHOMET, ORIGINAL, AVENGER, PITCHY, BUSBY, COLUMBA, PROGRESSO, CARBONO, COMSTAT, BAHAMA LURE, FABLOUS, SULTRY SISTER and DISCOUNT. MOHMET won Stutz his first major stake, the 1950 Raynham Derby. For many years Stutz’s greyhounds were raised by his brother-in-law, former attorney R.H.Walters of Ft. Worth, Texas. Self-educated, well read and controversial at times, Stutz has always been an advocate for better racing and better conditions for greyhound owners. His columns have appeared in practically every racing publication that has ever existed.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Besides having provided many top kennels that have competed at major race tracks through the years, Happy Stutz has served the industry in a leadership capacity. Stutz has helped champion the course of greyhound men for several decades.
