PROFILE: Otto Weaver was born in 1905 at Flora, LA. Weaver is a member of the Weaver family, well known in the greyhound industry for their development of Derby Lane Kennel Club. Otto Weaver passed away in 1978, just three years before he was added to the PIONEER section of the Hall of Fame, in 1981.
HISTORY: Otto Weaver was born into greyhound racing. His father “Dad” Weaver founded the Derby Lane Kennel Club in 1926. Otto and his brother A.D began their association with the racetrack in 1932, learning the business from the ground up. They both ran concessions, worked in the money room and eventually learned all phases of the track operation, to better qualify them for the management positions they held later.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Otto Weaver served as secretary-treasurer of Derby Lane from 1947-1968, as president from 1968-1973 and as a member of the Board of Directors from 1947-1973.
