Djays Octane
2020 - Greyhound Hall of Fame Inductee
A greyhound that appears in the pedigrees of notable racers, Djays Octane became the fourth generation in his sire line to be honored in the Greyhound Hall of Fame. The son of Flying Penske, 2013 Hall of Fame inductee, was whelped on December 3, 2006. He was the grandson of Oshkosh Racey, honored in 2001 and the great-grandson of Unruly, inducted in 1988.
Additional Hall of Fame honorees in Djays Octane’s pedigree are Rooster Cogburn (2007), Elsie Jones (2006), Miss Gorgeous (1993), K’s Flak (1987) and Onie Jones (1987) on his sire’s side and Rooster Cogburn, HB’s Commander (1999), Kunta Kinte (1991) and Downing (1984) on his dam’s side.
Djays Octane made his own mark in racing, having had a noteworthy career at Southland Greyhound Park, winning the Razorback Stake and making back-to-back appearances in the Derby finals, placing 2nd in 2009 and 3rd in 2010. He also finished 3rd in the 2008 Festival of Stakes Juvenile and the 2009 Southland Inaugural.
He is revered, however, for his offspring and their accomplishments. He claimed the Leading Sire Title in 2017 and placed 2nd in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Most notable among his nearly 6,000 descendants are Boc’s Blast Off, a 2nd Team All American and winner of the Bluffs Run 3/8 Derby; Ethanol, who won the 2017 Derby Lane Distance Classic; PJ Force Factor, 2017 Southland Futurity winner; Chasmo’s Dutch, who won the 2015 Festival of Stakes Male Sprint and 2016 Southland Derby; and BS Hammer, 2017 Dubuque Classic and 2017 Au Revoir stakes winner at Iowa Greyhound Park.
