Flashy Sir
1963 - Greyhound Hall of Fame Inductee
A World Champion who ruled the track as “Mr. Greyhound” from 1944 to 1947. You took on all comers and almost always came out on top. For this, Flashy Sir- this is your life.
Winning the acclaim of racing judges, secretaries, handicappers, and most everyone who had the privilege of watching you perform, you earned·the title of the greatest greyhound of modern times.
You were purchased for $800 at a coursing meet in Abilene by Merrill Blair Jewell, Kansas. Small investment indeed for a champion who won $ 50,000 in one year alone and averaged $1,200 per month in stud fees.
It was no small wonder when the selection committee met to name the first three greyhounds to the Hall of Fame that you were chosen. As one of the greatest racing dogs of all time, you started in 80 races in 3 different parks and won 60 of them. You finished second 1o-times and third 4 times and were out of the money only six times.
Among your top performances was the winning of the $10,000 American Challenge Cup series held at the Taunton and Wonderland tracks. Of course, the high point in your career was when,·after winning 18 consecutive races, the sports writers started calling you the Seabiscuit of racing dogs.
Out of Flashy Harmony and sired by Lucky Sir, the names that will always be a part of your fame are: Taunton, West Flagler; Raynham, Biscayne, Revere and St. Pete.
