Inductees: Gangster*

1964 - Greyhound Hall of Fame Inductee

The greatest greyhound to ever color a park. Owned by John Pesek of Ravenna, Nebraska, you were strictly a coursing star. Because of your outstanding record from 1933 to 1935, you are the first entry in this special division of The Greyhound Hall of Fame.

Your USA coursing record includes championships at the Waterloo Cup and Derby Cup in 1933, the Derby Cup in 1934, and again in 1935. A commanding type of greyhound, you were the son of two noted Australian greyhounds in Non Pareil and Dusty Louise. You were whelped in 1930 and were bred in the famous kennels of Les Greentree and Wilberforce.

While most of your racing was done in America, you were one of the last four dogs to run in the N.S.W. Derby of 52 greyhounds and undoubtedly one of the best puppies to ever compete in that event.

You were purchased in Australia by John Pesek, one of the world’s finest wrestlers, while he was on a tour. Shortly after, you were brought to America and began your long sequence of winning performances. One of the most familiar sights around the meets was that of owner Pesek and his mighty greyhound Gangster. They said the two of you were always together. Even when you were on the road, the two of you would check into hotels together and share a room.

Certainly, the American greyhound breeding did benefit greatly from the infusion of your blood.
