I’ve wanted to name a saluki puppy Tumble Bug for about 30 years and it was finally perfect timing for this little guy to be named after, and to honor, the great Tumble Bug! He’ll do whatever he wants when he grows up, from racing to lure chasing to open field coursing and hunting jackrabbits…
Thought you might appreciate his name!!

Phoebe (b. 5/23/24) is the best girl to ever exist. She goes to work with us in NYC each and every day, commuting on the subway to and from, just as a city girl should. In her free time, she enjoys sleeping under 3 different blankets, eating pinecones, and CHEESE.

Kelda (b. 6/3/2012) was our first greyhound, but not our first dog. We thought we knew what we were signing up for. In the personality section of the info sheet we got at her adoption, they hadn’t checked ‘playful’, ‘friendly’, or ‘high energy’. They hadn’t checked any of the boxes actually, but had handwritten “The Boss”. Whoever wrote that wasn’t kidding! Kelda liked things her way and wasn’t shy about letting us humans know when we were slipping. She had raced for 5 years until the effects of age and injury forced her retirement in 2017. At a local Greyhound Playgroup, organized to give retired racers a chance to run with each other, Kelda always held her own and didn’t take any nonsense from the larger boys trying to push her out of the way. It was easy to see why she raced so long.
In Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, a kelda keeps her clan in order, makes decisions, and is effectively their protector and head of state. But under the bluster, and if you passed her test, Kelda was a sweet girl. We miss her every day.

Koko is a greeter at the Greyhound Hall of Fame. She came to us from Tracy Wildey Kennels in February of 2024. She is the boss around here. Koko loves attention, snacks, and her partner in crime, Max. She is a sweetheart. When kids ask if they can pet her, I warn them that she will kiss them if they’re not careful. She is always the first at the door to greet our visitors, and they all love her.

When Lily stood amongst all of the Greys up for adoption at Southland in June 2022, Earl (Arno’s MoMike) walked up beside her and put his head in her hand…that was it; Lily was chosen.  Everyone, and I mean everyone, falls in love with Earl. He is the sweetest dog we have ever met… but don’t be fooled, he is also IN CHARGE.   He is much adored in his post-racing home. ❤️

Archie was born on February 25, 2025, at the Wayne Ward farm in Abilene, KS. Carrie and Bruce adopted him at 1 year old because an injury kept him from racing. Now completely healed, he loves to run, go on walks, and is very active. He loves all toys. Especially ones that squeak or crackle like a milk jug. He is very people-friendly and loves attention. Thanks to Julie Veal Ward for allowing us to adopt him.

WW Krazy Bob (Bernard) was born on 10/16/15 on the Wayne Ward greyhound farm. He raced at numerous tracks and set a season record running a 30.63 in a 5/16ths mile. He was retired at the age of 5 not hurt or grading off. He is our couch potato now but loves his walks, dog parks, swimming and of course feed time and treats. He doesn’t particularly care for dog toys or stuffed animals, he looks at us like what’s that for? He is good with other dogs, cats and loves kids. We are so blessed to have adopted him from Julie Ward Veal.

Max raced in West Virginia under the name WW Xavier. He is owned by Julie Ward from Abilene and has been at the Hall of Fame as a greeter since November 2021. This means he has greeted thousands of people visiting the Hall of Fame. People love petting Max, and he loves to give kisses. He was a great choice for a greeter.
