Julius Ceasar* (English)

You have the distinction, Julius Caesar, Imp., of being one of the few imported English sires to make a lasting impression on America’s greyhound tree. Of the top twenty sires of 1987, thirteen were your descendants, including the top three – Unruly, Placid Ace and K’s Flak.

Imported in 1958, you began your promising racing career by winning all but one of your four schooling races. You went on to win the $12,000 Juvenile Stake at Wonderland in 1959. When an injury cut your career short in 1959, you retired to stud, and so began your finest achievement.

As one of the top five sires in the industry during the 1960s, you became the first sire ever to stand at $300. Your progeny includes the My Lucky Gertie litter, which produced Michigan Jack (who would sire All-America Lucky Bannon) and Johnny Tango. Your breeding to Hurry Bones produced Elsie Jones (dam of the Jones line); and your breeding to Calesa produced Tulia (dam of Big Whizzer) and Toya (who produced J.N.’s Lou C Mar).

Your successful stud career lasted eight years and produced many outstanding racers and producers. At the time of your death in 1968, your legacy was only beginning.
