Norman McAsey

The Betterment of the greyhound industry was foremost in the mind of Norman McAsey throughout the 16 years as Secretary-Treasurer and keeper of the stud book of the National Greyhound Association. From 1965 to 1981, he guided the NGA through radical changes in structure and policy and was the driving force behind many of the successful programs that were instigated in the industry during those years. A time of tremendous growth, the NGA’s membership and number of registrations almost tripled while he served as its leader.

McAsey worked with his fellow greyhound enthusiast on the idea of building a structure to house the Greyhound Hall of Fame. His dream was realized when the present museum opened in 1973. He improved communications with all segments of the industry. Including the National Association of State Racing Commissioners, the individual State Racing Commissioners, and other regulatory agencies in racing. He assisted with the organization of the World Alliance of greyhound registries, of which the NGA and the Australian, Irish, and English registries were charter members.

McAsey was born on January 17, 1921, and he and his wife, Maxine, raised five sons. He died on January 17, 1982, of cancer.
